When I see a grass field such as the one below, I think of security, safety from the monster. How you might ask. That is what I am about to tell you! This particular field is about 5 to 6 feet tall, when I was young we had a field one house away from ours that grew tall too! When I was fearful of being hurt by that monster I would go to the field and burrow my way through it, making tunnels and caves to be in. Sometimes I would do this when playing with the neighborhood kids, but by myself for the most part. I would make a maze of trails so that no one could find where any of them ended or find me. I would do this for hours on end when THEY came to visit. The smell of the soil, the snakes slithering off away from me, mice feeding their babies, the bees and spiders were all my allies. I loved the fragrance of the grass as I buried my face in it like a bull charging to make my way. I was safe, it was warm, and it did not hurt. I would stay there until dark, by then I had to wash up and set the table, I was safe, couldn't be cornered.
For some reason I just had to tell that story.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos Jan! As I was reading your story I was thinking about how scared I am of snakes and spiders and even mice. Yet you found them to be your allies and you felt safe. How any child can be put through that is unthinkable! God bless Jan and keep you safe!
