The only crow I saw all day. |
I had an absolute blast watching these guys, on the ground and in the air. Lew loved chasing them and Randy loves watching Lew laugh. As the birds soar through the sky, hurdling themselves down into the shallows to grab what ever it is that they saw from so high, it is hard to imagine that they will not crash. I always get apprehensive watching them do this. The are not the worlds prettiest birds and they have a reputation as scavengers, fishermen fight them over bait fish, even so I have always been intrigued. The ones we have around here are largely Herring Gulls (the ones the fisherman hate) and the California Gull. When I would be at the docks in the town I was raised in, the gulls would follow the boats in and literally swarm the fisheries and canneries for all the scrap.
Beautiful. . .as a kid (and to my parents horror haha) I was thrilled when they came over to eat the scraps of food I threw to them :-)
