This park was established through the work of a neighborhood petitioning the city , working hard to change the area from a wasted old gravel pit to the beautiful place it is now. Over the years several children drowned in the pits created by the removal of gravel. It had formed ponds, a convenient place for neighborhood children to go when the heat of summer became too much. The mother to one of these boys decided enough was enough, when she lost her son. It has become a sanctuary for otters, nutria, pond turtles, many bird species, and an abundant amount of wildflowers. The Park is posted with water depth, it is no longer inviting for swimming with the water foliage and critters, it is however a popular in town fishing hole.
